QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  2. Minimum of four (4) years of successful teaching experience
  3. Demonstrated leadership abilities
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Ability to work effectively with adult learners
  6. Knowledge of research-based instructional strategies that engage all students
  7. Thorough knowledge of assessment and instruction
  8. Knowledge and skill with using a variety of assessment tools
  9. Commitment to life-long learning

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals
  2. Attend workshops/conferences to learn about innovative instructional strategies and curriculum initiatives
  3. Maintain accurate, detailed records and submit required documentation in a timely manner
  4. Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position and projects a positive public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups

THE INSTRUCTIONAL COACH WILL

  1. Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers in order to successfully provide opportunities for professional growth.
  2. Manage time and schedule flexibility in order to maximize teacher schedules and learning
  3. Provide training in how to understand and use data and assessments to improve teaching and learning in relation to MTSS
  4. Facilitate training to support the implementation of student intervention plans
  5. Develop training and related ongoing teacher support to develop positive learning environments for students, for example, engagement strategies, including CHAMPS, Thinking Maps, Talk Moves, etc.
  6. Provide professional development in the use of research-based instructional strategies, including modeling of lessons and co-teaching (where appropriate)
  7. Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers
  8. Provide training on resources and materials that are in alignment with the District curriculum to address the needs of students with different learning styles
  9. Provide training in how to integrate technology into curriculum and instruction
  10. Lead professional development in order to improve teacher’s knowledge, district-wide, of effective research-based instructional strategies

Grant funded program services supplement and support but do not supplant or replace the general education program of the school district. There is no guarantee of continued employment, beyond the availability of the funds or a demonstrated need, that is expressed or implied by the Port Huron Area School District. 

 

SUMMARY

 

The Instructional Coach will work as a colleague (non-evaluative) with classroom teachers to support student learning. The Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group professional development that will expand and refine the understanding of effective research-based instruction. In order to meet this purpose, the Instructional Coach will provide personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers and the District as a whole.
